TALK AND PRESENTATION BY HOWARD FAIRBANK
"Simply Adventure"
Wednesday 26 May
Trafalgar Room - RNYC
Former Durbanite, corporate executive and entrepreneur Howard Fairbank tells his story of how in 2004, he simplified his life and centred it around solo sailing, cycling, trekking and sea kayaking, traversing continents, crossing oceans and exploring the natural wonders of our world.
This all culminated in his recent South African first, a 41 day Arctic expedition from Canada to the Geographic North Pole. His presentation will cover something on the philosophy of life, a summary of his adventures with a strong sailing slant, and an emphasis about his recent trek to the North Pole with some great visuals.
Fairbank was fresh out of Durban University in 1989 when as a top dinghy and keelboat crew, and member of the PYC, he was selected to join Brian Tocknell, Richard Crockett, Brian Mittlefehldt and Ben Gildenhuys aboard ‘IGI Express' - a Miura - for the South Atlantic Race to Uruguay.
He travelled around South America with Robbie Goulden after the race, and eventually settled down into business life. But his thirst for adventure and a need to stretch his endurance led him into some solo sailing passages, a bicycle adventure through Africa, and this year a trek to the North Pole.
Don't miss this presentation which will be in the Trafalgar Room at 17h30 on Wednesday 26 May.
