SAILING MATTERS
by the Rear Commodore, Gregg Dobson

~Laser Masters
Gregg Hurter and Gregg Dobson entered the Laser Masters regatta held at Island Sailing Club last weekend.
The Saturday weather forecast of 10-15 knots North-Easterly wind turned into a 20-25 knot "Beastly Easterly".
Gusts were recorded around the 28 knot mark. This made it extremely difficult for the two Royal sailors who are a lot more comfortable sailing boats with lumps of lead attached to their centerboards, with the result that they spent some time sampling Bay water and inspecting the underside shape of Laser Hulls.
The Wind Gods were a lot kinder on Sunday with the North-Easterly blowing a gentler 8-12 knots.
The race officer managed to squeeze in five races before the 14h00 cut-off time.
Gregg and Gregg both competed admirably with the regular Laser sailors with Dobson managing to win a race and finishing 5th overall and Hurter coming in 9th.
The event was won by the Commodore of PYC, Campbell Alexander followed by the PYC Rear-Commodore of dinghy's Colin Schwegman.
Thanks to the organisers for a 'bruising' affair.

~Durban-Richards Bay Race
Please complete your entries for the Durban-Richards Bay race this coming Saturday and hand them to Bronwyn.
The return race is to be held on the 29 May.

~Trio Regatta
There are only 30 days to go before RNYC's Trio Regatta which incorporates the IRC provincials and Flying Fifteen nationals.
A SASKRS class will be open to Wednesday night boats.

~Crew Service
Struan Campbell has created a crew mix and match group on facebook for skippers who need crew and crew who need boats.
It is open to anyone so if you need a person or a boat then put a wall post up advertising yourself.
Hopefully we can start building fleets by making it easy for skippers and crew to connect.
Put videos, photos - whatever you want - up there for all to see.

Let's enjoy our sport safely! See you on the water.
