Ruperts Bar is located in the downstairs dining room and is named after Rupert Ellis Brown, who was commodore for 25 years. Ruperts used to be the ladies' bar across the road at the old club, when ladies weren't allowed into men's bars by law, and was evidently a fairly shabby and pokey little backwater . On Friday nights, however, there used to be quite a party there. Isobel West was the terror of Ruperts - she regarded it as her pub, and didn't enjoy young, rowdy sailors in her pub.
